Our Programs

Trinity Church’s PlanBeTeen Program has successfully implemented more than $30 million in Federal, State, and locally funded programs in the areas of adolescent pregnancy prevention (APP) programs addressing positive youth development, healthy relationships, financial literacy, marriage education, and family strengthening, since 2004.

PlanBeTeen has served over 65,000 middle and high school students through partnerships with the Miami-Dade Public School System, as well as community-based and faith-based organizations.

The PlanBeTeen program is designed to help at-risk youth in underserved communities understand a myriad of healthy life choices to facilitate reaching their full potential. Utilizing evidence-based interventions, the PlanBeTeen Program educates youth about the many risks that are associated with engaging in sexual activity such as teen pregnancy, STI’s/STD’s, mental and physical abuse; all of which can lead to dropping out of school and other setbacks entering adulthood.  Currently funded programs are described below.

Personal Responsibility Education Innovative Strategies

Personal Responsibility Education Innovative Strategies Program (PREIS) is a research project that targets 9th and 10th-graders attending public schools located in zip codes with the highest teen birth rates in Miami-Dade County. The purpose of this project is to implement and evaluate an innovative adolescent prevention program and target services to high-risk, vulnerable youth populations that are at the highest risk of adolescent pregnancy to prevent pregnancy and STIs, including HIV/AIDS. PREIS will rigorously evaluate an innovative program consisting of Relationship Smarts PLUS 4.0 (RSP) an evidence-based relationship skills curriculum for young teens. This curriculum embodies an innovative approach that addresses positive youth development, life skills, healthy relationships, dating violence, and pregnancy prevention.  Mind Matters, a curriculum that address trauma coping skills, is also included in this program.  In addition, participating students will receive a youth needs assessment, screening youth for adverse childhood experiences (ACE), provision of referrals for support services to address identified needs, and group and, as necessary, individual case management. RSP includes 5 of the 6 Adult Preparation Subjects. The evaluation will consist of a 3-arm stratified (at the school level) randomized controlled trial with two treatment groups (one receiving the program described above and the other just (RSP) and a control group).

Healthy Marriage and Relationships Education

Healthy Marriage and Relationship (HMRE) Project provides Relationships, Education, Advancement, and Development for Youth for Life (READY4Life) initiative. READY4Life serves low-income minority high school youth in grades 9-12 living in Miami-Dade County. READY4Life provides education on the values of marriage, relationship education and skills, parenting education and economic stability. The program utilizes integrated workshop models with evidence -based curricula; “Love Notes 3.0”, Mind Matters, Money Habitudes, Preparing Adolescents for Young Adulthood (PAYA), and Skills to Pay Bills. The purpose of READY4Life is to help youth build economic stability and socioemotional development. The long-term outcomes of the program are to (1) improve family functioning; (2) improve adult and child well-being; (3) increase economic stability and mobility; and (4) reduce poverty.

Sexual Risk Avoidance Education

The Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) Program utilizes an evidence-based SRAE curricula Love Notes 3.0 Sexual Risk Adaptation Evidence- Based Program for middle school and high school-age youth, along with positive youth development services in the areas of success sequencing, healthy relationship education, career preparation and healthy life skills. The project promotes social and emotional well-being, screens youth for adverse childhood experiences (ACE), and provides goal-oriented group case management to all program youth, while offering individual case management to those youth demonstrating the highest need for this service. SRAE provides services to middle and high schools students ages 13-19 including urban youth, youth poverty, justice-involves youth, and youth in foster care.

Teen Pregnancy Prevention

Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) program provides education related to teen pregnancy, STI’s, STD’s, HIV/AIDS prevention, support services, and community resources to parents/caregivers of program youth through events, workshops, curricula homework assignments, email blasts,  and a social media campaign in order to achieve optimal health.   TPP utilizes evidence-based curricula, "Love Notes" and "Reducing the Risk", with junior high and high school students respectively. Through rigorous research, both curricula have been shown to be effective to combat the problem of teen pregnancy. This program targets populations vulnerable to teen pregnancy, including urban youth, youth in poverty, justice-involved youth, and youth in foster care. TPP is designed for youth in public schools, faith-based organizations, and community-based organizations in Miami-Dade.
